Outstanding Teaching Award: Tenured/Tenure-Track

Daniel Aldrich

Professor, Political Science and Public Policy; Director of the Resilience Studies Program; Co-Director of the Global Resilience Institute

Daniel Aldrich has consistently demonstrated a passion and enthusiasm for teaching and a willingness to go the extra mile in and out of the classroom. Over the past seven years at Northeastern, he has taught a broad range of graduate and undergraduate courses, and Dialogues of Civilizations. Daniel’s innovative pedagogy includes a flipped classroom approach for many of his courses. His incredible mentoring has led to the inclusion of graduate students and undergraduates in numerous research projects, exposing them to the whole process of academic research from data collection and analysis through peer reviewed article publication.

Outstanding Teaching Award: Full-Time Non-Tenure Track

Kat Gonso

Teaching Professor in English and Director of the Writing Center

Kat Gonso is a caring, innovative and passionate educator whose teaching record demonstrates an impressive breadth and depth that has facilitated students’ growth mindsets, creativity and experiential learning. Making “teaching with tenderness” and “human-first” the foundations of her teaching philosophy, Professor Gonso’s caring pedagogy has inspired and empowered her students from various backgrounds. Connecting teaching with the community and incorporating a strong service-learning component, Professor Gonso promotes social justice and inclusion in her instruction and service.

Outstanding Teaching Award: Graduate Student

Sarah Lockwood

PhD Candidate, Criminology and Justice Policy

Sarah Lockwood’s love of learning drives her teaching. Her engaging activities help students apply their classroom learning in real world situations. In addition to her Introduction to Criminology and Human Trafficking courses, she also mentors undergraduate students in the Violence and Justice Research Labs. Lockwood has built an inclusive classroom environment, and students frequently note that she is both understanding and helpful. Students also praise her enthusiasm and how engaging she makes her classes.

Outstanding Teaching Award: Part-Time

Linda Chiu

Lecturer in Chinese

Linda Chiu’s teaching is deeply informed by her own personal and professional experiences. This connection between classroom instruction and the outside world has led her to regularly incorporate service-learning activities into her courses. Teaching both elementary and advanced Chinese language courses in various modalities, Linda strives to humanize her curriculum so that both in-person and online students are presented with a learning environment that centers their individual needs and goals.
