Anjanette Chan Tack

Anjanette Chan Tack is an interdisciplinary scholar of race. Dr. Chan Tack is currently at work on her first book, “Indo-Caribbean Coolitude: Deconstructing Blackness and Asianness in the Americas”, which traces the evolution of hegemonic constructions of Blackness and Asianness in the U.S. and the Caribbean after the formal abolition of African chattel slavery to present time. Dr. Chan Tack’s research advances scholarship in sociology, anthropology, Africana Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and Global Asian Studies. Her research has been supported by fellowships from the MacArthur Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Society for the Study of Social Problems and the Harvard Hutchins Institute for African and African American Studies.

Places special emphasis on historical development, specific problems of adjustment and assimilation, and present-day problems and trends. Cross-listed course between the Sociology & Anthropology and Cultures, Societies and Global Studies departments.
