John Portz
Professor of Political Science
John Portz teaches and conducts research in the general areas of state and local politics, public policy, and public education. His specific research interests include school politics, accountability, and governance, as well as public leadership. His current research project focuses on different types of educational accountability in elementary and secondary education at different levels of American federalism.
In fall 2011 he was a Fulbright Scholar in Brazil where he taught a course in American politics. In his home community of Watertown, he served as an elected member of the Town Council for eight years, and he was elected in 2005 to serve on the Watertown School Committee. He currently serves as chair of the Committee.
