Over the past few decades, gentrification has severely impacted Black communities in cities across the United States. In considering how to best stand alongside our communities (particularly while we attend a gentrifying urban university), it’s important that we understand how and why gentrification is such a pressing issue.

This Thursday at 6pm, join NASO, NBSA, and SAID on the 2nd floor of the African American Institute as we break down the basics of gentrification, discuss how the issues affects Black Boston residents, and highlight the ways in which local activists of the past and present have fought displacement (and won!). We’ll be joined by a four community members: former Boston City Council member – and Boston legend – Chuck Turner, as well as activists Jordana Monteiro, Elise Sutherland and Armani White (all future legends).
