Lexi Prather – Students of CSSH

“The entire Dialogue of Civilizations experience in South Africa was extremely impactful as a student studying Human Services and Global Social Entrepreneurship, but also as an individual. The day that was spent in the Kayamandi Township is one that I will never forget. Seeing the impoverished black township in such close proximity to the affluent and majority Afrikaans town of Stellenbosch was a startling juxtaposition. Throughout the trip there were many examples of how far South Africa has moved forward since the end of the apartheid, but there were also scenarios and situations that showed how much change still needs to occur. This photo represents racism as one of the many social injustices that black and coloured South Africans face on daily basis.”
