As the Spring 2018 semester wraps us, many of the pieces of our Service-Learning puzzle had a chance to come together to celebrate another successful semester at our Spring 2018 Service-Learning EXPO!
To see details on presenters, Spring 2018 community partners, and more, explore our Spring 2018 Service-Learning EXPO Program.
The theme of this semester’s EXPO was “Putting the Puzzle Together, one Partnership at a Time.” The Service-Learning EXPO is an opportunity for S-L students and faculty to showcase the many different projects they worked on throughout the semester and to highlight the amazing work that our community partners do every day. There were refreshments from each of the four communities surrounding Northeastern, to connect our theme even further.
Students from 28 of our 46 classes presented at the EXPO, which ran from 10-11:30am. There was a presentation on a research project called “S-L: SOFAR so good?” with faculty members Gail Begley, Lorna Hayward, Missy McElligott, Bret Keeling and Amy Lantinga. Scout Labs-a design community at Northeastern, and Freedom by Design– a group that constructs small service projects for the American Institute of Architecture Students were also represented. As everyone was sharing and networking, Camille Frazier and Jacob Seeger performed beautiful music on stage for all of us.
Early in the event, Kelsie O’Flanagan gave opening remarks to welcome Northeastern faculty, students, staff and community partners and kicked off the poster presentations from Service-Learning students and groups. The EXPO concluded with Becca Berkey, the Director of the Service-Learning Program, and Lisa Roe, the Assistant Director, presenting the Course-Community Collaboration Award to our two pairs of winners: Nicole Aljoe & Amanda Tompkins and Adreenne Law & Sue Freeman.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Spring 2018 Service-Learning EXPO, representing all of the pieces of our puzzle! Thank you to the S-L Teaching Assistants, Team Managers and Street Team members for all of your hard work in making this event and this semester a success! Thank you to the Service-Learning Advisory Board (S-LAB), the Center of Community Service, and City and Community Affairs for your dedication and support to our program. A special thank you to our wonderful community partners for allowing us to expand our connections past campus. We are looking forward to continuing to build our puzzle through Fall 2018’s Service-Learning partnerships!
