Students named Huntington 100

Human Services students honored for outstanding achievements

Two graduating human services majors who have also played critical roles as program assistants in SPPUA’s Social Impact Lab were named to the Huntington 100 list, which recognizes outstanding students for achievements commensurate with the university’s mission, ideals, values, and Academic Plan.

Allegra Mangione and Martha Durkee-Neuman were honored because of their outstanding achievements in impact on the campus community, service, global engagement, leadership, innovative spirit, and commitment to the ideals and values of Northeastern.

Mangione has epitomized Northeastern’s commitment to global education, having worked or studied in Ecuador, Jordan, South Africa, and Nepal, with an emphasis on community development, social enterprise, and the nonprofit sector. As a teaching assistant for Rebecca Riccio’s course, “The Nonprofit Sector, Philanthropy, and Social Change,” she helped students learn how to visualize their emerging understanding of complex social problems through systems mapping.

Durkee-Neuman has taken advantage of Northeastern’s experiential learning opportunities to pursue her interest in social justice. She has worked at Oxfam America, CODEPINK: Women for Peace, and the Crossroads Family Shelter. On campus, she co-founded the Northeastern Unitarian Universalists student organization, served on the Executive Board of the Northeastern Interfaith Council, and worked as an outreach coordinator for the Sexual Assault Response Campaign.
