LEAD, Inc. is working to certify Northeastern students in Youth Mental Health First Aid! Join the movement!

Many of us and our friends struggle with mental health issues in college. According to the CDC, suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth ages 10-24, and 75% of all lifetime cases of mental illness expose themselves before age 24.

How can you help? Become certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the student-founded nonprofit Let’s Empower, Advocate, and Do, Inc. (LEAD).

Just as CPR certification helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone ages 13-24 experiencing a mental health or substance-related crisis. You’ll learn risk factors and warning signs, strategies to help people ages 13-24 in crisis and non-crisis situations, and how to connect people to help. This course was developed by the National Council for Behavioral Health.

Our next course will be on Sunday, November 12th from 8am-5pm in the basement of East Village: Room 2. While the course is valued at $170, LEAD is offering it to students and faculty for only $100. A great resume builder! Scholarships are available if financial assistance is needed.
