Become certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid by NU’s student-founded nonprofit, LEAD!
Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour certification by the National Council for Behavioral Health that focuses on risk factors and warning signs of mental illness and addiction, strategies to help people (ages 13-24) in crisis and non-crisis situations, and resources for help.
Why YOUTH? 75% of all lifetime cases of mental illness expose themselves before age 24! The 8-hour certification is designed to teach students, educators, clinicians, peers, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-24) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
COST: The course is offered by LEAD for students, educators and community members at $100/person (Valued at $170). Group rates are available for 10+ people. Contact President Kyrah Altman for more information at kyrah@LEADnow.org.
