The Master of Arts program focuses on the core scholarly Areas of Political Science. Courses in the MA program serve as foundation for work in doctoral program or as preparation for careers in government, nonprofit organizations, or related work in the private sector. Students specialize in one of the five concentration areas.

Explain, compare, and contrast fundamental political processes, institutions, actors, and ideas related to at least one of the following fields:
American Government and Politics
Investigate and analyze contemporary political issues and major arguments in the field of political science
Assess the value and use of primary and secondary sources of argumentation and evidence
Develop and apply statistical research skills related to the study of political science
Communicate effectively in written and oral formats relevant to the field of political science
Apply and integrate personal experience in government, politics, or related activities with the academic study of political science
Design and complete an independent research project in the domain of government and politics
Current tuition and fee rates for our Master of Arts in Political Science program are available on the Student Financial Services website. These rates are subject to revision by the University’s Board of Trustees. Tuition is charged by the semester hour (SH); our M.A. curriculum consists of 32 SH in total.
Our top masters applicants are eligible for the Political Engagement Scholarship that cover up to 50% of tuition for the duration of the degree program. There is no separate application for these awards. Students simply indicate interest in funding via the “Financial Assistance” section in the online admission application.
