Julia Bell

Criminology and Justice Policy, PhD

Julia Bell is a doctoral student in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. She holds a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology with a concentration in Social and Criminal Justice from Central Michigan University, and a M.S. in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Victims and Offenders from Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Prior to attending Northeastern, she worked as a research coordinator for the Ohio Attorney General’s Center for Justice Research and as an adjunct instructor at BGSU. Julia’s main research interests focus on correctional systems and practices. More specifically, she is interested in examining how the criminal justice system functions as a mechanism of social control and disproportionately targets marginalized communities. She is also interested in studying international correctional practices to inform future changes within the United States correctional system. At Northeastern, she is a member of the Corrections and Reentry Lab and the Lethal Violence Data Lab, and works as a research assistant for Dr. Natasha Frost studying correctional officer well-being.
