Mason Gersh had a lifelong interest in social justice and advocacy. His time at Northeastern cultivated his budding passion for social justice and social change.
Mason took "Human Rights in the Twenty-First Century," with Professor Serena Parekh. The class confirmed Mason’s decision to focus on the field of human rights policy.
He completed his first co-op at Oxfam and worked on advocacy campaigns about industry transparency, climate change, and food security.
Mason traveled on a Dialogue of Civilizations to Berlin and Istanbul with Professors Berna Turam and Kathrin Zippel, where he studied effective urban space planning for how minority communities.
Professor Denise Garcia’s "International Conflict and Negotiation" course taught him about international issues and complex negotiations.
Mason spent a semester at the London School of Economics through the Hansard Scholars Program. His fieldwork there served as the frame for his required thesis as a Hansard Scholar.
He researched how the LGBT community has historically used urban clustering to create inclusive neighborhoods, and received a scholar’s research grant to work with Professor Thomas Vicino.
Mason continues to focus on advocating for marginalized populations in his job as Deputy Manager of the Humanitarian Reporting Team at USAID.
