On April 20, 2021, the Institute on Race and Justice held part 1 of its fourth annual David B. Shulman Lecture titled "Hands Up, Don’t Shoot: Why the Protests in Ferguson and Baltimore Matter, and How They Changed America." The event featured Dr. Jennifer Cobbina, Associate Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University.
As we anxiously awaited the verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial, Dr. Jennifer Cobbina, Associate Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, discussed timely themes from her book “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot: Why the Protests in Ferguson and Baltimore Matter, and How They Changed America.” We appreciate Dr. Cobbina for leading this opportune discussion of how protests and other responses to acts of police violence have the potential to change our communities and our systems of justice.
