“I always knew that admin work came easily to me, but I wanted to see if pursuing that through Case Management was right for me.”
– Andrea Lavy
Co-op Term: Spring 2026
Position: Case Manager on Stabilization Unit
Employer: Pine Street Inn
Andrea managed her own caseload of 6-12 clients independently, handling responsibilities such as advocating with halfway house intake coordinators, scheduling medical appointments, helping clients apply for benefits, and coordinating with lawyers, while also providing emotional support and regulation for clients daily.
The most rewarding part of her experience was the emotional, human connection she built with her clients, simply talking with them about how they were feeling and helping them work through emotional regulation, work that felt far more fulfilling to her than the paperwork side of the job.
Through this co-op, Andrea gained valuable insight into both her professional skill set and her personal working style. On the skills side, she strengthened her administrative and case management abilities, including client advocacy, benefits coordination, and cross-team collaboration with clinicians, while also applying classroom knowledge like person-centered approaches, motivational interviewing, and expressive therapies directly with clients.
