“Understanding the social inequities that underrepresented groups face helped me approach my work in a more equitable form.”
– Kaelyn Silva
Co-op Term: Spring 2025
Position: DEI Office Co-op
Employer: Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office
At the Organizational Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion division at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Kaelyn worked closely with her supervisor on a collaborative team. Her responsibilities grew steadily throughout her co-op, and she managed various projects independently.
The foundational principles she learned at Northeastern gave her a thoughtful, unique perspective to bring to her DEI work. Courses like Social Change and Human Services, along with Nonprofit Philanthropy, deepened her human services knowledge and shaped the way she approached projects with empathy and intention.
Kaelyn’s co-op experience shaped both her professional skills and her career direction. Through her work on accessible communications and digital design, she uncovered a genuine passion for digital media, learning about accessible fonts, color contrast, and effective design principles along the way. Her time in the DEI office also broadened her perspective on social inequality, as conversations with colleagues in employee resource groups exposed her to experiences and challenges she hadn’t previously considered.
