Co-op Highlight: Meredith Jenkins

“I find my work fulfilling when I directly face people and communities being served.”

– Meredith Jenkins

Co-op Term: Spring 2024
Position: Intergenerational Program Coordinator
Employer: LBFE Boston

Litte Brothers: Friends of the Elderly Boston (LBFE Boston) is a program that connects college students with older adults. She planned and led weekly community activities at senior sites around the city, taught technology lessons to help older adults get comfortable online, and handled the behind-the-scenes work that kept programs running, such as scheduling and attendance.

“A big lesson I learned in human services has been: if your goal is to empower an individual and they believe they can do something on their own, let them, no matter how long it takes them to do.”

– Meredith Jenkins

Meredith took initiative beyond her core duties by helping launch a new program for LGBTQ+ older adults and college students, contributing to outreach and marketing, writing a student newsletter, and using her Spanish to support Spanish-speaking participants. This experience made her realize she is more interested in fieldwork than nonprofit administration. She finds her work most fulfilling when she directly works with the people and communities she is serving.
