“I ultimately became well assimilated into the staff and felt like I was an important part of the team! I got to know my teams and the rest of the staff through work projects and virtual social events.”

Rebecca Powell, Human Services & International Affairs Major

Co-op Term: Fall 2020
Position: Policy & Research Co-op
Employer: The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab North America (J-PAL) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

J-PAL fights poverty by funding new and innovative research efforts in various sectors such as education, finance, health, and more. Through community outreach and advocacy, J-PAL uses its global network to ensure new policies and initiatives are supported by scientific evidence.

Becca Powell was hired as a Policy & Research Co-op with a concentration in the Policy Vertical. With the freedom to outline her projects at J-PAL, she coordinated and created materials for a State and Local Innovation Initiative. Working with this team highlighted the importance of community involvement in policy development and connected her with research and community professionals willing to share their stories. At J-PAL, Powell found her passions for social policy and research and aims to pursue a career in a similar organization in the future.
