The Tough Husky

The Northeastern University’s Human Services Organization (HSO) and Student Veterans Organization (SVO) hosted an event on campus, on Saturday, April 9th to raise money and awareness for two nonprofit organizations that work with veterans: The New England Center and Home for Veterans and through HSO’s partners VSO the Home Base Project. The event “The Tough Husky” was modeled after “Tough Mudder” to include military boot camp physical fitness activities that were led by the student veterans in SVO followed by a BBQ. Participants paid to register and received raffle tickets to be entered into two raffles: Red Sox tickets and a Visa gift card. Others volunteers or guests were able to purchase raffle tickets and food from the BBQ as well.

All of the profits made from the event will be donated to the New England Center and Home for Veterans and through SVO to Home Base Project. HSO will be splitting the amount raised, equally among the New England Center and Home for Veterans and Student Veterans Organization to go towards their Run to Home Base Fundraiser that will benefit the Home Base Project.

HSO is aware of the many benefits this financial contribution can have on programming and services for veterans. For example, the New England Center and Home for Veterans is currently undergoing renovations at their facilities in Boston to help improve the services they provide, like education, clinical support, employment and housing by increasing the number of beds.
