Congratulations to Andie Weiner, the 2023-2024 Holocaust Legacy Foundation Gideon Klein Scholar

Andie Weiner ’24 has been named the Holocaust Legacy Foundation Gideon Klein Scholar for the next academic year.

For her project, Weiner will be creating a biographical solo theatrical performance regarding the meeting of Hellen Copenhagen Groothuis, a Jewish mother with a newborn baby, and the Van de Meerendonk family, a Christian family in Vught, Netherlands in 1944. The performance will explore how Jewish mothers in the Holocaust were willing to give up their children for safety and how non-Jewish mothers were willing to take in a baby knowing the risks. She will present her performance during Holocaust and Genocide Awareness Week 2024.

Andie Weiner is a rising fourth year pursuing a combined major in Theatre and Psychology. Through Northeastern, she has worked with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as Wayfair. Outside of the classroom, Andie serves as the president of The Downbeats, a DJ on WRBB, and a Husky Ambassador.

The Holocaust Legacy Foundation Gideon Klein Award is supported by the Holocaust Legacy Foundation.

Information about the Gideon Klein Award, past recipients, and their projects may be found on our website, and in the Holocaust Awareness Archives of Northeastern University.
