Edward Castleman

MA in Public History

A native of Gleason, Tennessee, Edward graduated with a BS in history from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee in the spring of 2023. His research interests are medieval and early modern European history with an emphasis on church history. He wrote his undergraduate thesis on the influence of nuns and other spiritual women on medieval European society. His interest in the field of public history began while working as a curatorial intern at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center in the summer of 2022. While there, he made virtual exhibits that discussed the histories of the cotton industry in West Tennessee and the Hatchie River Region. Also during his internship, he co-authored a paper titled “The Digital Age: Technological Advancements at Small Museums” for the American Association for State and Local History’s History News magazine.

Research interests: Medieval and early modern Europe, religious history, social history, cultural history, public history, and the role of women in medieval Christendom.
