Jackie Northrup received her PhD in Political Science at Northeastern University in 2020, specializing in American Government and Comparative Politics. She has a strong background and interest in gender and campaigns. Jackie has served as a Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Comparative Politics and Introduction to American Government.

Research Interests

Jackie’s research interests are in the area of American and Comparative Politics. In particular, she is interested in the intersections of gender, race, and politics, campaigns and elections, and southern politics. Her dissertation focuses on campaign language and promises related to issues of gender.

Prior Work

Prior to enrolling in the PhD program at Northeastern, Jackie worked as a Field Organizer for Planned Parenthood Southeast, focusing on defeating a “personhood” initiative and building grassroots support more generally. Jackie also served as a Graduate Assistant at The University of Southern Mississippi where she earned her Master’s degree. Upon finishing classes at Northeastern, Jackie returned to full time work, this time in the role of Assistant Director of the Women and Gender Resource Center at The University of Alabama.

Biography

Jackie received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Political Science at The University of Southern Mississippi where she was involved with the College Democrats, Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood, and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She currently resides in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with her partner, Steve, and their two dogs, Bud and Lynn. In her limited spare time, she works with AAUW and volunteers in her community.
