Cara Marta Messina (Ph.D. ’21) has won the Kairos Teaching Award for 2019 from the online journal, Kairos. Recognized as one of the top online journals in rhetoric, writing studies, and digital humanities, Kairos publishes bi-annually and reaches an audience of 45,000 readers per month around the world. Each year, Kairos recognizes three graduate students and/or adjuncts with awards the categories of service, teaching, and research. Cara has been awarded this year’s Teaching Award for her work teaching writing and digital technology. Cara was nominated by her advisor, Professor Mya Poe, for this distinguished award, based on the breadth of her outstanding teaching and her interdisciplinary work with the Digital Teaching Integration, Design for Diversity, Women Writers Vector Toolkit, and First Year Writing and Advanced Writing in the Disciplines courses. Cara will defend her dissertation in 2021, tentatively titled, “The Critical Fan Toolkit: Fanfiction Genres, Ideologies, and Pedagogies.” Congratulations, Cara, on this impressive award!
