The College of Social Sciences and Humanities Dean’s Strategy Council (DSC) serves as an advisory council to the college dean. Founded in 2015, the DSC is comprised of eight members who offer their time, guidance, and other resources in support of elevating awareness and excitement about Northeastern and CSSH.
Edward J. Meehan, Esquire practices law in Washington, District of Columbia for a broad spectrum of U.S. and international clients. He earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College, a master's degree in economics from Northeastern University, and a law degree from George Washington University. Meehan has a passion for education, particularly experiential learning. He has helped create and fund initiatives at several universities and at public elementary and middle schools, all aimed at providing experience-based learning opportunities reflecting principles similar to those of Northeastern's co-op program.
Stephanie Behrakis Liakos is a trustee and the executive director of the Behrakis Foundation, a position she has held since 1996. Previously she was a project manager and health economist for a pharmaceutical company. She holds a bachelor of science in economics from Northeastern’s College of Arts and Science and a master of arts in economic policy from Boston University. She was a PhD candidate in economics at Northeastern from 1991 to 1993. In 1996 she completed a certificate in pharmaceutical economics and outcomes from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. She is a board member of Project Learn, an educational task force for the implementation of STEM programs in Lowell; an cverseer at the Museum of Science; and founder of the Comfort Dog Ministry at Hellenic College/Boston Greek Orthodox Diocese. She is married and the mother of a middle school son and high school daughter.
James W. Bucking, Esquire is a partner and chair of the Labor and Employment Law Department for the Boston law firm of Foley Hoag LLP. Since 1991, he has focused his practice in the areas of labor and employment law and litigation. Bucking is past chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Currently, he serves as management chair of the Labor and Employment Section’s NLRB Practice and Procedures Committee for the American Bar Association. He earned his bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, summa cum laude, at Northeastern University and his juris doctorate, cum laude, Order of the Coif, at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Dr. Janet C. Campagna is the CEO of QS Investors based in New York. Prior to founding QS Investors, Campagna was a managing director at Deutsche Asset Management serving as the Global Head of Quantitative Strategies and a member of the Global Operating Committee. She has had a long career in asset allocation and quantitative management having also spent a number of years at Barclays Global Investors and First Quadrant. She is a board member of the Mott Haven Academy in the South Bronx, a charter school specifically designed to meet the needs of at-risk students in the foster care and child welfare system and a member of the MFE Steering Committee for the Haas Business School, UC Berkeley. Campagna’s academic background includes a bachelor of science in economics from Northeastern University, a master of science from the California Institute of Technology and a PhD from the University of California, Irvine.
James I. Gabbe is a decorated U.S. Army officer, author, documentarian, co-owner of a communications firm in New York City and professional photographer. The recipient of numerous awards for industrial documentaries, Gabbe recently produced Journey with the Giant, the first film of its type to explain China’s stunning rise from Third-World doldrums to global economic powerhouse. His screenplay Duke was taken into development by TriStar and his novel, LaRue's Maneuvers, explores generational conflict and trauma during the Vietnam War in the late 1960s. His recently published, critically acclaimed, historical work The Universe of Union Square tells in words and nearly 1,000 photos and illustrations the mostly untold and/or lost story of a small piece of a giant city. Gabbe received his bachelor degree in history from Northeastern University and holds masters degrees in history and journalism from Brown University and Columbia University, respectively.
Lora Giampetruzzi joined Warburg Pincus in March 2003. She is a senior vice president, assistant general counsel and focuses on legal and regulatory matters relating to the firm’s investing activities. Mrs. Giampetruzzi received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, with a combined major in political science and international affairs, from Northeastern University in 2000 and a Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School in 2006. She is a board member of The Young Women’s Leadership Network, a non-profit organization, a member of the City Bar of NY, Committee on Women in the Legal Profession, and a member of the New York Bar and Bar of the Supreme Court of the U.S.
Allen C. Lomax became an independent consultant after retiring from the federal government with 34 years of service. Since his retirement, Lomax participated in a National Academy of Public Administration/American Society for Public Administration project called Memos to National Leaders (2012). He is also very active in serving his community, chairing the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria. He is a member of the Governing Board of the Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness in the City of Alexandria, a member of the Mayor’s Special Advisory Panel on Health Care for Alexandria’s Uninsured, a member of the planning committee for the Mayor’s Campaign to End Bullying in Alexandria. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of the National Capital Area. Lomax holds an undergraduate degree in political science and public administration from Northeastern University and a Master of Public Administration degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He is also a past president of the Northeastern University Alumni Association (1994-96) and a past executive vice president of the Alumni Association (2005-07).
Ann W. Stewart spent almost two decades managing the court system for the state of Connecticut. She was the highest ranking non-judicial administrator, and held a role typically held by judges. Stewart did her initial training for this position as a co-op student in the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Northeastern’s College of Criminal Justice in the class of 1976, and continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Hartford. Stewart’s husband Shelley is also a Northeastern criminal justice graduate, and her daughter Sydney graduated from Northeastern’s College of Arts, Media and Design in May 2015.
A 1975 graduate of Northeastern, Charles Ziakas credits his co-op assignment at a local hospital for his decision to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals. As an executive in three large biopharmaceutical companies over a thirty-six year career, he built and led multiple teams to success including directing the field launches of several multi billion dollar brands. A passionate champion of people, he developed many individuals to leadership positions and created many innovative programs to drive both individual and team performance. He served on the U.S. executive teams for Novartis Oncology, Biogen and as group VP at Schering Plough. He also holds an MBA degree from Rutgers. He currently splits his time on the New Hampshire Seacoast and northern New Jersey.
