The Department of Philosophy and Religion and the Program in African and African American Studies offer an interdisciplinary combined major in religious studies and Africana Studies. Students interested in the combined major integrate the study of religious traditions, religious praxis, and religious ethics with critical and systematic examination of the cultural, political, social, economic, and historical experiences of African Americans throughout the hemisphere and peoples of African descent around the world.
Religious Studies Requirements:
- 2 Comparative Religion classes
- 1 Ancient Mediterranean and African World Traditions class
- 1 Asian Traditions class
- 1 Religion and Culture class
- 1 Ethics class
- 3 Religious Studies electives (2 of which must be above 2000)
- 1 Advanced elective
Africana Studies Requirements:
- 1 Foundational class
- 1 Introductory classes
- 2 Humanities classes
- 2 social science classes
- 1 elective over 2000 level, not already taken
- 1 elective over 3000 level, not already taken
Capstone Requirement
- can be completed either in Africana Studies or Religious Studies
