Open Classroom: “Dukakis: Recipe for Democracy” film screening and interactive panel discussion

Open Classroom returns to celebrate the Policy School’s 20th anniversary with an advance screening of the documentary “Dukakis: Recipe for Democracy” on former Massachusetts governor and Northeastern professor Michael Dukakis’s commitment to public service. Following the screening, Dukakis Center Director Alicia Modestino will moderate a panel discussion and Q&A with invited guests including the filmmakers, teachers, and students. Attendees will then join small-group conversations that will bring together policymakers, practitioners, community members, and researchers to explore how individuals dedicated to public service can make meaningful progress during these politically polarizing times.

Now You Know: Honoring the Life and Legacy of Kitty Dukakis

Sponsored by the Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy, this symposium will celebrate women’s leadership in public service as exemplified by the life and legacy of Kitty Dukakis. Bringing together policymakers, practitioners, community members and researchers, we will collectively explore how to make meaningful progress across four policy areas championed by the former Massachusetts First Lady: housing insecurity, mental health, environmental preservation, and support for the arts. The goal is to form new coalitions across the public, private, non-profit, and academic sectors that will actively work together to move the needle in each area and fulfill the collective vision of Kitty and Michael Dukakis to build a thriving community that serves the most vulnerable residents of the Commonwealth.  

The C2C Research Seminar Series offers a space for research peers to connect, exchange ideas, and provide meaningful feedback. The weekly hybrid seminars, rotating between the Boston, Oakland, and Portland campuses, showcase the diverse work of C2C funded scholars that bridge research with community practice and partnerships. Through open dialogue, participants engage with a wide array of topics that reflect pressing societal challenges and opportunities for impact. Sessions are recorded and shared at the scholar’s discretion.
