Melissa Berry-Woods
Director of Student Diversity and Success; Associate Teaching Professor in English
Melissa Pearson joined the faculty at Northeastern as a lecturer in the Writing Program in Fall 2015. She teaches first-year writing and advanced writing in the disciplines. Her research interests are in African American feminist rhetoric, first-year writing and writing pedagogy. Since earning a PhD in rhetoric and composition from the University of South Carolina in 2010, she continued to strengthen her breadth of knowledge about leadership and the inner workings of the academy at the HERS Women Higher Education Leadership Institute at Bryn-Mawr College in 2011; and, honed her knowledge of writing research and assessment at the Composition Research Seminar at Dartmouth College in 2014. She was previously assistant professor of English and African American studies at Claflin University.
