Stacey Katz Bourns

Professor of Cultures, Societies and Global Studies; Director, World Languages Center

Stacey Katz Bourns is Professor of Cultures, Societies and Global Studies and the Director of the World Languages Center at Northeastern University. She teaches courses in French language, linguistics, and culture. From 2009-2016, she directed the Romance languages program and taught French and applied linguistics at Harvard University. Her research focuses on the grammar of spoken vs. written French, syntax, pragmatics, teacher training, applied linguistics, and curriculum development.

Professor Bourns was recently elected to be a member of the ADFL (Association of Departments of Foreign Languages) Executive Committee, and she is the former president of the AAUSC (American Association of University Supervisors, Coordinators and Language Program Directors). She was also the series editor of the annual volume Issues in Language Program Direction, published by the AAUSC, from 2011-2017. She served the MLA as a member of the Delegation (from 2009-2012), as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the Division on the Teaching of Language (from 2008-2013). She currently holds the post of Assistant Editor at the French Review and is a member of the SLRP (Second Language Research and Practice) editorial board.
