Danaah McCallum

Master of Public Policy

Danaah began her career in the public sector as a per diem teacher in the Newark (NJ) Public Schools. She later embarked on a career with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), where she served in several roles, including that of a front line social worker. Danaah’s passion for public policy and administration intensified through her work as a chief union steward.

In 2008, Danaah was afforded the opportunity to join DCF’s, Foster Care Review Unit as an Administrative Case Reviewer. There, she served as the chair of a panel formed to review cases of children in substitute care, while ensuring the agency’s compliance with state and Federal regulations. She later served as a manager for a team of Case Reviewers.

At present, Danaah is employed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services as a Child Welfare Program Specialist. In this role, Danaah serves as a technical consultant to New England’s child protection agencies as it relates to the interpretation and application of Federal child welfare laws and regulations. Additionally, Danaah assists with monitoring states’ compliance in terms of its use of Federal funds. Danaah is an Adjunct Professor at Elms College in its social work department, teaching American Government, as well as Social Welfare Policy. She is also a member of the Worcester (MA) Board of Election Commissioners.
