Halle Brockett

Halle Brockett was first exposed to American Sign Language by her Hard-of-Hearing mother. Her early exposure to ASL drove her to develop her skills through higher education. She found a home with Northeastern’s diverse and welcoming ASL and interpreting programs, and is working towards becoming an interpreter in the performing arts.
Halle took "Intermediate ASL 2" with Professor Alma Bournazian, one of her favorite classes at Northeastern. Throughout the course, she advanced her receptive and expressive skills in the language.
She joined the Mixed Student Union. As a multicultural student, Halle found the student group to be a refuge on campus.
Halle is an active member of the theatre department. She performed in three productions and served as house manager for two.
She frequently volunteers for Deaf community events in Boston, and for the ASL-IE department. The Deaf Inc. Foliage Walk in October 2023 was especially memorable for Halle.
Halle worked as an usher for the Wheelock Family Theater's interpreted showing of The Addams Family and used her ASL skills to help families get seated and comfortable.
She participates in Signing Huskies, Northeastern's ASL club, where she engages with other ASL students, and practiced her signing and interpreting skills.
“With my deeply rooted interest in American Sign Language, I was drawn to CSSH at Northeastern for their longstanding, leading ASL program. Through classes in deaf culture and interactions with the wider Boston Deaf Community, my education has grown in ways I had never imagined.”
