How Deepak Chopra’s AI spirituality is hijacking spiritual hunger

Famous spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra has launched an AI platform containing his entire body of work that can be accessed for just $10 a month. With this new software, Deepak’s teaching can be taught long after he is biologically gone, allowing him to reach millions more without lifting a finger. While in theory this sounds incredibly beneficial to many who don’t have the time or money to go to an in-person event, in reality, the AI platform is far from Deepak the teacher, and rather is just a shell of him.

Professor Liz Bucar (Philosophy, Religion, WGSS affiliated faculty) tested out this platform, unearthing the not-so-glamorous realities of this site. When she asked questions about Deepak’s recent connection to the Epstein files, its obligation to her as a student, or anything related to its own accountability, it responded by flipping the switch onto her. By placing full responsibility on her, it demonstrates that these spiritual AI platforms are not going to help you grow; they will just tell you what you want to hear. The real teachers are meant to make you uncomfortable, to challenge you, but these chatbots are simply a reflection of you. Professor Bucar believes these spiritual platforms will continue to grow in the coming years because, as a society, everyone is looking for shortcuts, the path of least resistance, even if that means a lack of growth and honesty with ourselves.
