The interpreting education field has a rich history of federally funded training programs, curriculum development, and professional resources. CITE is committed to identifying, preserving, and making accessible these materials for future generations of interpreters, educators, and Deaf community members. The ASLIE Program is actively seeking funding to support this work.

Accessing Materials in the Digital Repository Service (DRS)

Preserved interpreter education materials are available through the Northeastern University DRS. You can browse and search the collection at repository.library.northeastern.edu.

Finding what you need

Use the search bar at the top of any page to search across all collections, or search within a specific collection using the search bar next to that collection’s name.

Once you have results, you can filter by material type (images, video, or text), year, creator, or subject. You can also sort by “Recently created” or “Recently updated” to see the newest materials first.

Search tips

For more precise searches, try these shortcuts:

  • Put a phrase in quotation marks to find exact matches (e.g., “social justice”)
  • Add an asterisk to the root of a word to find variations (e.g., psych* returns psychology, psychiatry, psychological)

For more help, visit the DRS Subject Guide.

Past Federally Funded Grant Projects

NIEC

Northeastern was awarded a five-year grant by the Rehabilitation Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Education to continue its work as the National Interpreter Education Center (NIEC). The grant ended on September 30, 2016. At that point, the NIEC and all five federally-funded Regional Interpreter Education Centers closed.

Prior to its closing, the NIEC provided resources and professional development for interpreting educators and worked closely with the regional centers to ensure coordinated and effective education and professional development opportunities for new and seasoned interpreters nationwide.

The NIEC was part of the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers.

NURIEC

The Regional Interpreter Education Center at Northeastern University (NURIEC) was funded by the Interpreter Training Program grant from the US Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration. The grant ended on September 30, 2016, at which point the NURIEC and the five other federally-funded Interpreter Education Centers officially closed. Prior to its closing, the NURIEC served ten states and territories within its region: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Vermont.

The NURIEC was part of the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers.
