Sign Language Interpretation and CART

American Sign Language Interpretation or Communication Access Realtime Transcription (CART) is made available through Northeastern’s Disability Resource Center (DRC). To request a sign language interpreter or CART for an event or program, please complete an Interpreter / CART Request Form . The DRC will make every effort to provide the requested accommodation. Please note that it is strongly preferred that requests be made at least 3 weeks in advance, if possible. Requests received outside the recommended timeline below may be difficult to accommodate with preferred services and/or providers. Questions should be directed to drc@northeastern.edu.

Volunteer Student Interpreting Opportunities

Have a low-risk assignment you think might be suitable for an interpreting student? Please visit our Student Pro Bono Interpreting Services site to learn more about if student interpreters would be a good fit for your event.

Including an Access Statement for Advertising Events

An access statement should be added to all event flyers, registration pages, etc. so attendees know how to request accommodations and who to contact with any questions.

Here is sample language:

Northeastern University’s goal is to create an inclusive and accessible campus for faculty, staff and students. Your experience and participation in this event is important to us. If you require communication access services for the deaf or hard of hearing or believe that you require a reasonable accommodation for another reason please contact [add event coordinator name and contact] by [add date 3 weeks prior to event].

In addition, if interpreting services are being provided and attendees do not need to request services, the following template language/image should be used on flyers, notices, emails for the event. Please also include the symbol for sign language interpretation, which is available for download here.

*ASL Interpretation will be provided for this event*
