Northeastern University ASL Interpreter Rates

Providers will be paid as “Independent Contractors.” Our interpreter rates are calculated based on the following factors:

  • Level of credentials (eg. State-screened, nationally certified, etc.)
  • Years of holding certification
    • Additional factors include Masters or PhD and assignment location (in person vs remote)

Certification documentation and a copy of your resume must be provided prior to assignments. 

Billing

General Billing Guidelines

Interpreters are paid a 2-hour minimum *initial provider appearance fee, per assignment.

Mileage/Parking

Parking expenses up to $10 per day, provided that you submit a valid receipt for the parking cost with your invoice will be reimbursed.

Mileage in not compensated for Northeastern University jobs.

Prep Time for Academic Classes (Interpreters Only)

Interpreters are paid one hour of prep per week for each class. Additional prep time can be requested if needed for complex courses and must be pre-negotiated. Prep time is typically not offered for ASL language classes but can be requested. Prep time is billed at your base rate, not the on-site/in-person rate.

Invoicing

All Invoices should include the following information:

  • Invoice number
  • Date of invoice
  • Dates and names of events
  • Start and end times
  • Rate per hour
  • Total hours billed
  • Name, mailing address and email address

For assignments booked through the ASL & Interpreting Education Program, please email a copy of your W-9 Form  and invoice to Cayle O’Brien-Mattiace, c.obrien@northeastern.edu. For all assignments booked through Disability Access Services (DAS), please email a copy of your w9 and invoice to Betsy Ireland, e.ireland@northeastern.edu.
