BARI works with public and non-profit partners to foster a culture of data use for pursuing community priorities. We accomplish this through multiple strategies, from education in the use of public data to convening multiple organizations to develop civic research agendas that undergird future conversations and collaborations. If you would like to partner with us, please reach out to bari@northeastern.edu.

Current Projects

Below is a list of projects underway at BARI. To learn more about the data, findings, policy implications, and learning opportunities for each project, click on the titles below.

  • Common SENSES Project: A partnership led by the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, Project RIGHT, Inc., BARI, and the City of Boston’s Office of Emerging Technology that enables community data-driven environmental justice along the Blue Hill Ave. corridor in the Roxbury and Dorchester neighborhoods.
  • Mobility Data For Communities: A collaboration with SUNLab that provides communities and community-based organizations access to data that are commonly used by large corporations to observe patterns in how consumers visit businesses. Our platform allows visitors to see where people travel to, from, and within neighborhoods for shopping, eating, and working.
  • Problem Properties: In 2011, Mayor Menino established the Problem Properties Task Force, an inter-departmental initiative focused on identifying and responding to properties where there is persistent criminal activity and violations of the sanitation and building codes.
