A language analysis team (LAT2) comprised of native signers with diagnostic assessment skills reviewed language samples that had been gathered during CALI’s initial data collection.

The team had two goals. The first was to document the use of specific language features in order to identify patterns and the implications for message meaning and comprehension. The second goal was to offer interpreter practitioners descriptions on how an individual’s language use impacts the interpreting process and to suggest effective strategies.

The overarching goal is to increase interpreters’ ability to adapt their language use and interpreting strategies to meet the linguistic needs of a broader range of Deaf and DeafBlind individuals.
