Professor Bilge Erten’s project, titled “From Addiction to Aggression: The Spillover Effect of Opioid Policies on Intimate Partner Violence,” recently received $438,703 in funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institutes of Health (NIH), under grant number R21DA058849. This research, which is ongoing and will continue for the next two years, examines the unintended consequences of opioid-related policies on intimate partner violence.

Dr. Bilge Erten, Associate Professor of Economics, presented her ongoing research on Friday, October 18 at the Violence Against Women Workshop hosted by the University of Warwick on October 18-19, 2024. The workshop features leading scholars from institutions worldwide, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange on the economic impact of policies aimed at reducing violence against women.

Professor Erten’s work, supported by NIH, aims to provide valuable insights for both researchers and policymakers in addressing the complex relationship between public health policies and violence against women.
