“The most meaningful part of this co-op was getting to see the difference we could make in another person’s life. Specifically, when I was leaving for study abroad, one of the students I had been doing activities with weekly, asked me if we were going to stay in touch and told me he was going to miss me. Not only did I make a difference in their lives, but they made an everlasting impact on mine as well.”

Kat Fitzpatrick, Human Services Major

Co-op Term: Spring 2019
Position: College Campus Case Coordinator
Employer: You’re With Us! in Boston, MA

In high school, Kat Fitzpatrick dreamed of working with students with disabilities and joining a mission of inclusion and acceptance. You’re With Us! is a non-profit that collaborates with college organizations to create inclusive opportunities for young adults with disabilities. As a College Campus Case Coordinator, Fitzpatrick worked closely with students and her fellow co-ops to plan activities and create memories that would create lasting differences in their lives.

Fitzpatrick’s time at the YWU! helped her strengthen her organizational and communication skills, providing her with a good backbone for future interviews and classes. The meaningful relationships she created helped her realized she wanted to solve conflicts directly with the people involved. After graduation, Fitzpatrick hopes to join the Peace Corps in the Middle East.
