Director’s Welcome
Welcome to the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ). I invite you to explore our programs, connect with our faculty and students, and join us in this important work.
At SCCJ, we bring together faculty expertise, student engagement, and community connections to better understand these challenges and prepare graduates. Hello, my name is Amy Farrell, and I’m pleased to welcome you to the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. I’ve had the pleasure of being a faculty member here at the school for over 20 years, and I’ve served as the school director for over five years.
SCCJ is a place where rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching, and deep community engagement come together to help our faculty and students address the most pressing issues facing crime and justice at SCCJ. Our faculty are leading voices in areas such as reentry policing, hate crimes, human trafficking, corrections, and victimization. Much of this research is anchored within our Center on Crime, Race, and Justice and the six associated research labs, all of which help train undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in the techniques and skills of research.
Today’s justice systems face rapid change and new challenges shaped by changing crime trends, technological transformation, and evolving justice policies. In this context, the role of universities is to provide a space for debate that’s grounded in evidence and fact. Our goal is not only to study the justice system, but to generate insights to improve it. I invite you to explore our programs, connect with our faculty and students, and join us in this important work.
Welcome to SCCJ.
Finally, if you don’t find answers to your questions here, email us at [email protected]. I’m certain that I or another member of our staff can help. Better yet, arrange to come for a visit; I look forward to the opportunity to meet.
Amy Farrell
