Scholarship Descriptions and Criteria

Criminal Justice Scholarships

This scholarship was established by the late Frederick Cunliffe, who in 1967 helped establish the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. This scholarship is awarded to students with demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need.

This scholarship was established in 1989 to honor the memory of Detective Sherman C. Griffiths. This scholarship is given to upperclass students who have shown a continuing interest in the fields of criminal justice or law enforcement and who have financial need.

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Rance McKenzie Hettler, an incoming freshman in criminal justice who perished in the TWA 800 crash. This scholarship is awarded to upperclassmen pursuing a career in law enforcement with financial need and high academic achievement. Preference is given to students who exemplify Rance’s commitment to maintaining a high moral character, dedication to excellence, and an unselfish desire to serve others as well as their country.

This scholarship was established to provide financial support to students in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students with demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need. Preference is given to students who are graduates of Boston College High School and who are residents of Boston.

This fund was established in memory of Shaun Ouillette, a fourteen-year old Canton, Massachusetts boy murdered in November 1986. Reflecting what were Shaun’s aspirations, preference is given to students who are in their freshman year at Northeastern, graduated from a Massachusetts high schools, have demonstrated hard work and diligence in school, are oriented to a career in law enforcement, dedicated to helping people, and have financial need.

This scholarship fund was established to honor the memory of David Schulman, who worked in the field of private security. This scholarship is awarded to students who have financial need, demonstrated a high degree of academic excellence and scholastic achievement, and have an interest in a career in the private security field.

This endowed fund was created in 1996 by the Criminal Justice Alumni Association in memory of Dr. H. Robert Sheehan, the first dean of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. This fund is awarded to students who have financial need, demonstrated high academic achievement, have an interest in a career in law enforcement and a goal of community involvement.
