Research and Innovation
Research Development Initiative
In 2025, the ASLIE Program received a Research Development Initiative grant to conduct an updated needs assessment. The results of this research are published in a report titled Evolving Practices: Understanding the Current Landscape of Interpreting Education and Deaf Community Needs. The report presents key findings, in English and ASL, and offers recommendations to guide the future of interpreter training, professional development, and advocacy efforts.
This study builds on earlier research conducted in 2015, when the National Interpreter Education Center, a grant-funded project at Northeastern University, released a report titled Preparing Interpreters for Tomorrow: Report on a Study of Emerging Trends in Interpreting and Implications for Interpreter Education.
Undergraduate Research Journal
The Journal of Undergraduate Interpreting Studies was a project of the National Interpreter Education Center (NIEC) at Northeastern University. The primary goal of the Journal was to showcase and share undergraduate research. A secondary goal was to encourage interpreter education programs to incorporate undergraduate research into their curriculums.
