Ready, you aim your skis across the slope and break trail towards one of your favorite stashes just below tree-line — think pillow lines and knee-deep pow. You and a buddy lap the spot as many times as you can before exhaustion hits.
In this theoretical bliss, every moment is a product of an extensive network of weather data. And yes, all the data is at risk. Project 2025 proposes to dismantle a key backbone to avalanche forecasting — the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA.
When project 2025 was released to the public in late April of 2024, the endeavor drew a flurry of backlash. The document is a “180 day playbook” for “an effective conservative administration,” helmed by the Heritage Foundation (an influential conservative think tank). And while former President Trump has attempted to distance himself from Project 2025 itself, many former administration officials and allies have been involved in the project. The former president also recently claimed that Project 2025 has aspects “everybody would like.”
