
Dr. Aaron Kupchik will present his latest book, Suspended Education: School Punishment and the Legacy of Racial Injustice, on Monday, March 24, at 12:00 PM in 200 Churchill Hall. Open to CRJ students, faculty, and the broader CSSH community, the talk will explore how historical resistance to school desegregation has contributed to the disproportionate punishment of Black and brown students today.
A Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware, Dr. Kupchik is a leading scholar in school discipline and juvenile justice. His extensive body of work includes Homeroom Security: School Discipline in an Age of Fear and The Real School Safety Problem: The Long-Term Consequences of Harsh School Punishment. His book Judging Juveniles: Prosecuting Adolescents in Adult and Juvenile Courts received the 2007 Michael J. Hindelang Award from the American Society of Criminology for its outstanding contribution to criminological research.
His newest book, Suspended Education, will be released on March 18.
