Recent PhD, Anjuli Fahlberg, has been awarded the Best Dissertation award from the American Sociological Association

Former PhD student, Anjuli N. Fahlberg, has won the ASA Dissertation Award for her dissertation titled “Activism Under Fire: Violence, Poverty, and Collective Action in Rio de Janeiro.” As an ASA award recipient, she joins a venerable group of scholars and educators who have been honored for achieving excellence in scholarship, teaching, practice, and public understanding of sociology.  Anjuli is currently a Full-time Lecturer in Tufts University’s Department of Sociology and Co-Director of the community-engaged research collaborative Construindo Juntos. Her research employs an intersectional lens to examine the effects of urban violence and uneven development on social mobilization in Latin America. She completed her Ph.D. in Sociology at Northeastern University in May 2018. Her research employs a participatory action research (PAR) approach to study violence and politics, and has been funded by the National Science Foundation’s Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant, as well as by Humanities Center at Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Alma J. Young Emerging Scholar Award by the Urban Affairs Association.
