Susan Stryker on Gender Norms and China’s New Ban

In a new News @ Northeastern article, Susan Stryker, Barbara Lee Distinguished Professor of Women’s Studies at Mills College comments on gender norms and China’s new policy that bans the representation of “effeminate” men on television. Susan Stryker comments that China is not the only country with political reactions to gender representation. 

“All societies have their practices of regulating, policing, and codifying what they believe constitutes proper masculinity/femininity” say Stryker
