
Current requirements: 12 semester hours
- Introduction to Digital Humanities or Digital History; this requirement may currently be fulfilled by either:
- ENGL 7370 – Topics in Digital Humanities: Introduction to Digital Humanities (4 SH) or
- HIST 7370 – Texts, Maps, and Networks: Readings and Methods for Digital History (4 SH)
- Two semesters of INSH 7910 – NULab Project Seminar (2 SH each semester, 4 SH total)

- Final project: a final independent DH research project located in the student’s home program (such as a thesis, or a portion thereof) or a collaborative DH project with substantial student participation. The final project will be overseen by the NULab faculty members teaching the NULab Project Seminar during its development; NULab workshop instructors will advise students on their projects and help students get guidance from other faculty as appropriate. Final projects will be submitted with three components: the project itself, a written project description of about 3,000 words, and a presentation to the NULab community. The DH Certificate Committee will formally approve all final projects. For more on the final project, including detailed requirements and example student projects, see here.

- By petition, any other graduate course may be counted if the student completes significant digital humanities work within the framework of the course. This option may only be used once and it requires permission from the course instructor and the DH certificate program director.
