Listen to the lecture

Prof. Gavin Shatkin and MS in Urban Planning and Policy Program students, together with other Policy School faculty including Policy School Director Maria Ivanova, as well as representatives from planning schools across Massachusetts, attended the Third Annual Massachusetts Distinguished Planner Lecture on March 13 on Northeastern’s campus. This was the third in an annual lecture series sponsored by the seven Massachusetts urban planning schools, the Massachusetts chapter of the American Planning Association, and the Progress & Poverty Institute. The intention of this lecture series is to give a distinguished planner who is nearing retirement a chance to speak to an audience of future planners.

The lecture featured Gail Latimore, Executive Director of Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation. Gail has been a leading voice in neighborhood planning in Boston for more than 25 years—under her leadership CSNDC has developed more than 300 units of affordable housing and become an innovator in inclusive climate change adaptation and economic development. Following a brief lecture by Gail, students from the MS in Urban Planning and Policy Program engaged Gail in a question-and-answer format. After the event, the Policy School hosted a reception attended by a mix of MUPP students and alumni and students from Tufts and Harvard.

Many thanks to MUPP students Lily Datz, Mollie Ping, Moses Elikem Ayirebi, Griffin Primeau, Emma Sanford, Jake Hardaway, and Maria Matilda S., who contributed their time and energy to making this event a great success!
