International Affairs & Criminal Justice (BA) | Criminology & Criminal Justice (MS, PlusOne)
Alexia Chiriac is a PlusOne master’s student in Criminology and Criminal Justice who began her academic journey as an undergraduate in International Affairs and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. Her coursework and co-op experiences shaped a strong interest in criminal justice, policy, and international security.
After taking a course in Human Trafficking, Alexia completed her first co-op at My Life My Choice in Boston, where she conducted data-driven research on child trafficking and supported survivors and advocates testifying for the Sex Trade Survivors Act.
Her third co-op placed her at the New York State Assembly, where she served as a Legislative Aide and Clerk for the Codes Committee. In this role, she contributed to work on criminal and civil justice legislation and gained insight into how laws are developed and reformed.
During her third year, Alexia joined Northeastern’s PlusOne program, allowing her to pursue a Master’s degree while completing her bachelor’s degree. The program helped her build advanced skills in criminal analysis, justice policy, and comparative law, while combining theory with practice through graduate coursework and co-op experience. She also served as a Master’s Student Representative, supporting cohort engagement, student advocacy, and outreach to prospective students.
Alexia plans to build a career at the intersection of criminal justice and international security, with a focus on terrorism, transnational crime, human rights, and the rule of law.
