Academic and Professional Journey
Leah Allen is a fourth-year undergraduate student in Northeastern University’s Criminology and Criminal Justice program, with minors in Sociology and Law and Public Policy. She is also a PlusOne candidate in Northeastern’s Master of Public Policy program, reflecting her strong interest in the intersection of law, governance, and social change.
During her time at Northeastern, Leah completed two co-ops that deepened her commitment to public service and advocacy. As a Legal Intern and Advocate at Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, she supported client-centered legal work and gained firsthand exposure to the legal challenges faced by incarcerated individuals. She later served as a Program Assistant in Governor Maura Healey’s Office of Access and Opportunity, where she contributed to initiatives focused on equity, access, and public policy at the state level.
Engagement and Service
Leah has been actively involved in civic and academic communities across Northeastern. Her involvement includes the Alliance of Civically Engaged Students, the Northeastern chapter of the Petey Greene Program, and her current role as a CSSH Co-op Teaching Assistant, where she supports students navigating the co-op process.
Looking Ahead
As an undergraduate, Leah credits SCCJ courses such as Criminal Due Process and Black Abolition Studies with strengthening her passion for law and justice. Looking ahead, her professional interests center on careers in public service, client-centered advocacy, and social policy.
