On Nov 13, 2023, the Center welcomed attendees to a conversation on AI governance, ethics, and, machine learning. Julie Marble, the panel moderator, introduced the panelists, starting with Denise Garcia, who provided a comprehensive overview of global AI governance, touching on the risks posed by military AI, a theme explored in her new book, The AI Military Race (Oxford University Press). The conversation deepened as Kathleen Creel demystified the technical aspects of AI, explaining sources of algorithmic biases and key ethical concerns through a slideshow presentation. Taskin Padir then shared insights on AI and robotics applications across various sectors, particularly in relation to the River Lab and the Experiential Robotics Institute. The session concluded with a lively Q&A from the live audience, allowing students to engage with the panelists and explore how international cooperation can address the global challenges of AI.
