Learning a language is one of the best ways to deepen your appreciation and understanding of other cultures. Korea is home to a fascinating contemporary culture as well as a rich artistic and cultural heritage. From BTS, Squid Game, and flavorful street food to medieval Buddhist temples and traditional theater such as pansori, Korean culture exhibits a dynamic mix of old and new, traditional and modern.

South Korea is the world’s 12th largest economy and the 6th largest trading partner of the US. It is easy to spot “Made in Korea” products in your everyday life, whether it’s a Samsung phone, a Hyundai hybrid car, or an LG refrigerator or TV. As South Korea’s influence in the global economy and business continues to grow, knowing the language can unlock exciting career opportunities.

South Korea today leads the industry in many areas, including the production of semiconductors, flat panel displays, and shipbuilding. It is also one of the most connected countries in the world, where you can experience the impact of cutting-edge technology in all facets of everyday life. Scholarship Opportunities

There are many scholarships available to support your study of Korean beyond Northeastern, including the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), the Boren Scholarship, the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship, and the Blakemore Freeman Fellowship, to name a few.
